Presentation Day!

We were the first group to present on the big day. We started presenting our slides and explaining on what page are we doing and the process that we went through. After we finished presenting our slides, we showed to Abang Rom and to the rest of the class our digital magazine. We started with a boom because of the epicness of the cover. Alhamdulillah the client love the cover. Then we showed our content page and how it is linkable to the tutorial page and the rest. We talked more on our tutorial page since that is the main page that we worked on real hard. After presenting Abang Rom gave some suggestions but overall he liked our digital magazine. Last day before presentation!

A day before the presentation day we all gathered in campus to finish our work and we ended up sleeping over. Marwan and Dhev was trying to finish the tutorial page while izzat & I were working on other things as well, even though there were a lot of obstacles that we went through that day like the linking of the video in the tutorial page and it cant be played but we still manage to finish it with help from Mr.Razif. I finished the presentation slides and we were good to go!

So we decided to do our final magazine cover, our model for the cover will be Izzat and our approach is towards metal and rock kind of look. Izzat went for stephen carpenter's(Deftones) looks. Below are the pictures of the photoshoot:-

On our magazine cover there will be a parallax animated photo. The sequence will be like those 3 pictures above.

Tutorial video done!

So after i edited the audio for the tutorial video, i gave it to izzat as he sync it with the video and this is how it looks like:-

So, Dhev and Marwan continue on our mock up for the contents page which Izzat had previously design. Of course, they had trouble making the interaction that we would want to implement. At first, they were discovering on how to make it using HTML since we wanted an animation (slide up effect). They edited all the content in photoshop (separating the layers and converting them to PNG). Below is the example of our table of content on preview. We also tested it on the ipad. It worked fine!

On the other hand, Izzat and i were working on the production of the video that we recorded of dhev playing one of Nirvana's song. I was assigned to edit the audio of the recording session while izzat color grade the video. So after the tasks was divided to all the group members, we managed to accomplish it. Marwan and I managed to get the the lyrics section done on Illustrator then later completed the interactivity in Indesign. Here it is below after Marwan screen captured the adobe content viewer. Then, Dhev and Marwan have done their parts too which is the tabs, using html file which is done in Adobe Muse. They used panels made in Muse and then convert the file into html. Group Task

    We were arranging when to use the recording studio so we can do start filming Dhev for the tutorial section. Since there's a recording studio, why not use it to our advantage right? By using the studio we can get a clear recording of Dhev's voice and as well as the guitar's sound. The ambience and the surrounding of the studio would be great for the tutorial video.

Izzat Asad Mas'od

Strengths:

• Very good in Illustrator,photoshop and AfterEffects. Have a good eye for colors and fonts. Any illustration will be given to him
• Responsible on the task given
• Good communicating skills in presentation
• He knows how a rock magazine should be like since he loves rock music so much.

Weaknesses:

• Needs to be ordered and at his mood to do work
• Takes his time on illustrating
• Lacks research material compared to others

Khalil Marwan Shagul 

Strengths:

• Have a very good leadership skills even though he was not the leader. 
• Has a good work ethic, very cooperative with group members.
• Always update his blog right after our tutorial with Mr.Razif
• Always finish his task on time, some finish early and because of that we can move on to another design.

Weaknesses:

• Software research
• AfterEffects 

Dhevgan Sivanathan

Strengths:

• Very good at doing research for softwares
• Handles task that was given very well
• Very good in AfterEffects
• Very good in presentation.
• Knows music and guitar very well because he's a musician.

Weaknesses:

• Illustration, colors and fonts.
• Leadership skills not as strong.

Mini presentation

Today we were supposed to present our mock-up to our client but he was too busy so we did our presentation in front of a camera. It was recorded by Mr. Razif, which will be shown to Abang Rom. Dhev represented our group in presentation. We picked him to present because he is a musician and the best guitarist in our group. Dhev forgot to explain more in our tabs and chords part, which is our important segment of our digital magazine. Dhev also explained a part wrongly, our design for the content page is finalized after Mr. Razif mentioned not to hide our headings and descriptions. So we corrected that part accordingly.

Mr. Razif: The parallax animation does not suit the genre it is too smooth for the Punk genre of the magazine. It should be more splatter, strong and punk on animation.

Presentation to Mr.Razif

Friday, 25th April 2014.

Today our lecturer, mr.Razif told us that we need to do present to him our latest idea/progression before we can present it to our client the following week. We were given time to do some work before our presentation. During the weekends the four of us were doing research on how can we make the tutorial page for the tabs into something new and different, also easy for the beginners to understand.

Dhev had an idea of showing the guitars neck instead of the normal tabs because if you are a beginner guitar player, it's easier for you as you can see which strings you have to place your fingers. We then discussed it as a group and we implement his idea and made a flat guitar neck icon for the tabs section.

The art of Innovation & Group Discussion

Mr. Razif showed us this video in class. It was a really good video on how people should approach themselves as innovators. After watching this video, Guy Kawasaki inspired me as innovator/designer. He showed how to not make the presentation boring and he also said we shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes as products because they are always sent out as beta testing first

Monday, 14th April 2014.

Today our class was canceled because our lecturer Mr.Razif had a slight fever. So we continue with the magazine design and mock ups.

Today, Mr.Razif told us that we have to change the leader of the group every 2 weeks. For the past few weeks our leader was Dhev. He's been leading us with good leadership and gave us some insight in music and share his idea concept and we all work together on it. Now the torch has passed down to me. I'll be leading the group for 2 weeks. I shall lead my group to success. Monday, 7th April 2014.

Abang Rom, our client with us giving some advice and his story.

Today we met our client, abang Rom. He was the founder & chief editor of ROTTW. Before we started presenting, abang rom gave us some inspiring story about his past work and introduce us how the music industry started in Malaysia. He was full of energy and very experienced man. Now, as he finished gave us the talk and some Q&A session with him, we started presenting. We were the third group to present. We told him our ideas about the digital magazine sections. After we presented, he told us that we need to research & understand more about the magazine and the music and always ask ourselves "what if?". The four of us took his advice and we will research more and present a better one.

Friday, 4th April 2014.

Today we were tasked to develop 4 questions that would help us in our upcoming questionnaire. The purpose of the questions were to help us on how to make the "gear review section" and the "tutorial section" better. We discussed and brainstormed together and came up with a few questions and we asked Mr. Razif to check on it. From all the questions we've written down, we chose the best 4 with Mr.Razif:

1.Would you like to learn the tutorial with narration or with just the video visual?

2.Would you like to include tabs/chords or would the video be sufficient for the tutorial? 

3.Would it be better to have a celebrity review(video) or would a professional insight be fine? 

4.Do you prefer to view a list of available stores or to view the nearest store to your location? 

We chose to ask these questions to the public instead of the people in the university, we would need only 10 people to ask.

Discussion with Mr.Razif

Today, the whole class was tasked to create a digital magazine for our client, which is a magazine publishing company named ROTTW (Rhythm of the Third World). Their magazine content focuses on local rock music. We were divided into groups and each group will focus on a certain section to improve their magazine. Each group will need to improve and introduce a new section for the digital magazine.

Our group is called 3M1I, the leader is Dhev and the rest is me, marwan and izzat. Today we were discussing on which area to improve the magazine. We were searching for sections that would allow us to apply a variety of multimedia elements, to make it more interactive and user friendly. We decided to improve the "Gear Review" section, as for the introduce new section for the digital magazine, we chose to put a new "Video Tutorial" section for readers to learn some songs. We also decided to do something new with the cover as well, it's called parallax/motion pictures. The pictures on the cover will move for a second like they're in motion and there will be sound too. After decided on what we want to do, we have to present our ideas to the other groups and vice versa.

Friday, 28th March 2014.

Today was the first lesson in this class. We were taught on how to brainstorm ideas in many different methods. So far, there are 3 methods but we've only been taught on how to use only 1.

These are the 3 brainstorming methods:

1. Imaginary Brainstorming
2. Random Stimulation
3. Brain writing 6-3-5

The ones that our specialist, Mr.Razif taught was "Brain writing 6-3-5". This method of brainstorming focuses on asking ourselves a certain question that relates to solving the main problem.

Hello people of the internet, this is a new blog only for my Innovation & Collaboration class. In this blog, you'll see the work that i've done with my group, how we come up with the ideas, choose the best one and apply that into our work. We were assigned to change an existing magazine into a digital magazine but with better design and interesting content. We have to pick a certain page from the magazine and work on how to make that part better.
